Stain Removal for your new Landau & Urbane Scrubs
Laundry instructions are located on the tag on the back of your Landau or Urbane Scrubs. Most of the fabrics consist of a blend of 65% polyester and 35% cotton with a soil release finish. If you lost that tag it instructs you to machine wash in warm water, use non-chlorine bleach, tumble dry on medium and iron on a low setting.
Keep an extra pair of scrubs in your car so that if they become badly soiled or stained you can change them. If it is posssible soak stains in cold water as soon as you can and blot the stain from the back on a clean paper towel. Do not use heat, this may set the stain. Make sure that you apply any solution to an inconspicuous area to test the color fastness of the fabric before you proceed. These are only suggestons for stain removal, if you have used other method that were successful please share them by e-mailing acumed acumed@acumedsupplies.com
Different types of stains require a different approach. We can break stains down into several categories: organic stains, greasy stains, juice stains, ink and iodine stains.
Organic stains (blood, urine, feces and body fluids).
Take precautions for potential contamination, wash and disinfect your hands and any contaminated areas. Follow these steps until the stain is eliminated, then launder using the instructions above.
Scrape off excess material then soak for 15 minutes in a solution of lukewarm water (1qt) with 1/2 teaspoon of liquid dishwashing detergent and 1 tablespoon of ammonia.
Gently rub from the back side than soak for another 15 minutes and rinse.
If the stain remains, soak in an enzyme product for at least 30 minutes or soak for several hours if the stain is old.
For blood stains treat immediately if possible. Run cold water through the sain then treat with undiluted liquid dishwashing detergent.
If the stain persists, wet it with hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of ammonia.
Fruit Juice Stains (cranberry juice).
Soak the stain for 15 minutes in a mixture of 1 qt. lukewarm water, 1/2 teaspoon of liquid hand dishwashing detergent and 1 tablespoon of white vinegar, then rinse.
If the stain remains sponge with alcohol.
If the stain still remains soak for 30 minutes in a solution of enzyme presoak.
Greasy Stains (hand lotion, ointment).
Saturate the area with an aerosol type pretreatment laundry stain remover for 1 minute to penetrate the stain
If the stain remains, apply dry cleaning solution to the back of the stain over a paper towel to absorb the stain.
Ink.
This is probably the hardest of the common stain to get out of fabric. Treat immediately if possible.
Force water through the stain then let it air dry. Next sponge with dry cleaning solvent then apply concentrated detergent and rinse.
If the stain persists, soak in warm water with 1 to 4 tablespoons of ammonia per quart of water.
Iodine.
Sponge the stain from the back side with a solution of 1 tablespoon of sodium thiosulfate crystals in 1/2 cup of water add a commercial stain remover and rinse with water.
